‘Sweet little cross-eyed’ cat was returned to SC shelter. Then came good news
A cat with the “most unique eyes” was returned to a South Carolina shelter — and she needed a new owner.
Then came the good news that the adventurous feline was adopted.
“We’re incredibly proud of our community and how they continue to step up for the homeless pets in our care,” Emily Zheng, marketing manager for the Greenville Humane Society, told McClatchy News in a June 16 email. “We’ve already received a promising update from Oceana’s adopters and they tell us ‘she’s the sweetest girl ever.’”
Oceana got a fresh start after she first arrived at the shelter in April. She landed in a home but later returned to the humane society due to changes in her family’s living situation, marketing assistant Katie Wofford told McClatchy News via email.
“This sweet little cross-eyed queen is ready to sail into your heart,” the shelter wrote on Facebook as it put the cat back up for adoption. “Oceana is a gorgeous orange tabby with a one-of-a-kind gaze that only adds to her charm. She’s got a purr that could calm a storm and a personality as sunny as a beach day. Don’t let her quirky eyes fool you — she’s curious, cuddly, and full of love to give.”
The shelter in an online adoption profile said Oceana has “unique eyes that sparkle.” Her eyes are crossed, which in humans means they don’t always look in the same direction at the same time. Veterinarians believe the feline’s condition has a small impact on her vision.
“It seems like she can see rather well,” Wofford wrote. “She only has a bit of trouble seeing things below her, so she will tilt her head all which ways to see what’s going on around her.”
Oceana is described as a shy cat who loves being showered with affection when she becomes comfortable around someone. She also enjoys watching birds and makes a chirping noise when she wants treats.
“Whether she’s chasing her favorite toy or curling up for a cozy nap, Oceana brings joy to every moment,” the shelter wrote. “She’s looking for her forever home, and we just know the perfect family is out there.”
Then on June 15, the shelter shared the heartwarming update that Oceana had been adopted.
“Our staff is always so excited to celebrate an adoption, but especially when it comes to our adult animals,” Zheng wrote.
