Watch as trapped bear wriggles himself free from a Colorado storm drain
A trapped black bear wriggled himself free from a storm drain in a Colorado neighborhood — with a little help from public works and wildlife officials, video shows.
It happened Thursday, July 10, in the Ivywild neighborhood in Colorado Springs, Colorado Parks and Wildlife’s Southeast Region said in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
Officials didn’t provide information about how the bear may have gotten inside the storm drain or how someone discovered him in there.
The bear pops his head and an arm up out of the hole and takes a look back toward the officers before hoisting himself up and out, the video shows. Then he stands on all four legs and looks back toward the officers.
“Public works brought the key, our team opened the cover, the bear departed and climbed a nearby tree,” officials said in the post. “Bears typically stay in trees until darkness when they feel safe to leave.”
Ivywild is just south of Colorado Springs.
