Worker had nobody to eat lunch with, so he played the lottery. Then came big win
A nontypical solo lunch date for a Maryland worker turned into an exciting top prize lottery win, officials said.
The man from Nottingham told lottery officials he usually has lunch with co-workers but found himself alone one day at a cafe in Cockeysville, about a 20-mile drive northwest from Baltimore.
“There was no one to eat lunch with, so I got four scratch-off tickets to kill time,” the man told the Maryland Lottery, according to a July 31 news release.
After getting his tickets and his food, he went back to his office, lottery officials said.
Later on, he scratched off the tickets and realized he’d won big after the first ticket, the lottery said.
The lucky lottery player won a top prize worth $57,777 from a Lucky 7s Tripler he bought for $5, according to the lottery.
When he showed his wife, she didn’t believe it was real, he told lottery officials.
.
Five of the eight top prizes remain for the game that started in March, lottery officials said.
