A puppy, along with 23 other canines in Philadelphia, w recently rescued from a breeding facility that had reached nearly fatal temperatures.

“Three weeks ago, Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture officials discovered 24 dogs trapped in dangerous conditions at a breeding facility,” the Pennsylvania Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals said in an Aug. 22 Facebook post. ”The heat index inside at least one kennel reached 127 degrees. There was no adequate ventilation. The dogs were panting heavily, struggling to survive.”

The shelter, along with their Animal Law Enforcement were able to obtain access to the dogs and liberated them. Among the rescues was a dog they named Phillie Phanatic as an apparent nod to the Philadelphia Phillie’s mascot.

“This cocker spaniel mix was born with severe eye abnormalities that have robbed her of normal vision. The scorching conditions she endured at the facility may have caused additional suffering to her eyes that were already damaged and painful,” the shelter said.

“Phanny, as we call her, navigates in a world she can barely see. But, she does so with a wagging tail, and a zest for life. It is a joy to witness.”

The shelter holds out hope that they will be able to save one of her eyes, which would be ideal since Phanny is still a puppy at 4 months old.
