Sonic is offering new fall menu items — and they aren’t pumpkin-flavored this year.

The drive-in fast-food company is humorously campaigning this message: “Save a pumpkin, sip a salted caramel toffee iced coffee.”

Starting Aug. 25, anyone can order the new iced coffee or the salted caramel croissant bites through the Sonic Drive-In app, the company said in a news release. They’ll be available nationwide Sept. 1.

The salted caramel toffee iced coffee is made with cold brew, and it’s “layered with rich salted caramel and buttery toffee, poured over signature SONIC ice and topped with creamy cold foam and crunchy salted toffee pieces,” the company said.

Customers can get a 20-ounce coffee for $2.99.

They can also try the salted caramel croissant bites, which are “golden pastries dusted with a caramel sugar blend.” The sweet treats are served in a pack of four and cost $1.99.

“Fall flavors don’t have to mean pumpkin spice on repeat ... SONIC is stepping in to give pumpkins a much-needed break, all while giving guests something just as craveable,” Sonic’s Vice President of Category Management Barb Williams said in the release.

To drive this message home, Sonic partnered with husband-and-wife content creators, Alex Madison and Jon Bouff. The duo has millions of social media followers.

They created a comical video on Instagram where Alex Madison, who is currently pregnant, gets the idea to “save the pumpkins.”

“Pumpkins have been through enough. We need to save the pumpkins, Jon,” Madison says in the video, which has over 24,000 likes.

“Every fall, innocent pumpkins are just kidnapped from their homes. Carved up, gutted and turned into random things. Candles, pumpkin-flavored coffees, shampoo. Enough is enough. And that’s why we need a new fall flavor,” Madison says.

Sonic will also be donating to Pumpkins for the People, a program that “rescues edible pumpkins for donation, diverts jack-o-lanterns for compost, and raises awareness about food waste.”
