‘Warrior’ dog had a tight rope around his neck. So Texas shelter acted — fast
A dog in Texas was in a dangerous situation when a couple shelters and a veterinary clinic came to his aid.
Austin Pets Alive! shared a story of the unwavering resilience of a pup with a rope tied so tightly around his neck, that the help of multiple shelters was needed to remove it. And once they did, the road to recovery for the little guy was just beginning.
“Martin was brought into a South Texas animal shelter with a rope knotted so tightly around his neck, it left behind a deep wound and rotting tissue,” the shelter said in an Oct. 2 Facebook post.
“Without the resources to treat such a severe injury, the shelter acted quickly and rushed Martin to a nearby veterinary clinic, where the rope was removed once and for all. But there was still a major problem to solve—they didn’t have any fosters available to help Martin, and he couldn’t get the urgent care he needed at their facility.”
So the Austin shelter stepped forward.
“That’s when Martin, who we lovingly call ‘Martin the Warrior,’ came to APA,” the shelter said.
Unfortunately, Martin was deeply affected by the trauma the rope caused — both physically and mentally.
“Martin is finally free of that rope, but he’s not yet free of the pain and fear it caused, and his journey towards recovery is just beginning,” the shelter said. “He hesitates when walking into new spaces and startles at sudden movements, but he also knows he’s safe with us—and his joy at finally experiencing love shines through.”
The shelter is currently looking for a foster to help Martin heal and trust again.
