DoorDash waives fees as SNAP ‘has run dry’ during shutdown. How to get offer
DoorDash is launching emergency services to help SNAP recipients during the government shutdown.
The Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program doesn’t have funding come Nov. 1 as the “well has run dry,” the U.S. Department of Agriculture said on its website.
That means more than 41 million Americans will be without food assistance.
However, DoorDash is waiving delivery and service fees for about 300,000 grocery orders in November for those who are using SNAP, the food delivery company said in an Oct. 26 news release.
“Customers who have linked a SNAP/EBT card to their profile can shop on DoorDash at Sprouts, Dollar General, Schnucks, Ahold Delhaize brands, Hy-Vee, Giant Eagle and Wegmans and have their delivery and service fees waived on one order,” DoorDash said in the release.
Additionally, the company is waiving merchant fees for more than 300 Project DASH partner food banks, food pantries and community organizations.
“No one should go hungry in America — period,” DoorDash Vice President and Global Head of Public Policy Max Rettig said in the release.
How to get the offer
SNAP recipients won’t have to pay delivery or service fees at qualifying stores from Nov. 1 to Nov. 30.
A promo code will be available Nov. 1 to redeem the offer, and there’s a limit of one code per person. Other fees like tax and gratuity will still apply.
DoorDash customers can use the code if they have a valid SNAP/EBT card on their account.
The government shut down Oct. 1 when Congress did not reach a funding agreement, leaving hundreds of thousands of federal workers without pay.
