28-year-old weighed 65 pounds when he died, VA cops say. Mom accused of abuse
A mother is accused of neglecting and abusing her 28-year-old autistic son to a degree that led to his death, Virginia officials said.
Chesterfield County officers got reports of a man, later identified as Somak Nath, in cardiac arrest, according to an Oct. 23 news release by the police department.
He was transported to a local hospital, where he eventually died, officers said.
Nath was nonverbal and unable to care for himself, officers and news reports said.
A medical examiner determined Nath weighed 65 pounds when he died and most of his teeth were missing or rotted, officials told WWBT.
The complaint obtained by WTVR stated the home didn’t have running water or working toilets, with the man’s 60-year-old mother, Manisha Nath, giving him a bucket of water and mug to bathe himself.
Manisha Nath was arrested on charges of abuse and neglect of a vulnerable adult resulting in death, officers said.
Anyone with information on the case is asked to call 804-748-1251, officials said.
Chesterfield is about a 17-mile drive south of Richmond.
