The next big things in dining out
A rundown of new developments in restaurant reservation technology. (All are apps except Tock.)
Tock
- A restaurant management system that provides ticketing services.
- Restaurants can introduce demand-based price hikes and reductions for busy and slow nights, respectively.
Table8
- For a $95 annual membership, allows diners access to unlimited last-minute reservations at popular restaurants.
- Hosts special events and tastings for members.
- Popular with business travelers.
Resy
- Lets users pay as they go for last-minute reservations.
- Also offers a restaurant management system.
- Offers special "Fast Fine" prepaid prix-fixe dinners at select restaurants.
NoWait
- Lets users know how much longer they have to wait for a table and allows them to add themselves to a restaurant's wait list before they arrive.
Reserve
- Assigns a "digital concierge" to help users find restaurant reservations, for a flat $5 fee per reservation.
- Offers "Pay With Reserve," which automatically bills a credit card on file with the app so users don't have to worry about a bill.
- If a restaurant has enabled the feature, users can bid for reservations, volunteering to overpay by a percentage.
