The Queen has spoken, and she does not approve of North Carolina’s Bathroom Bill.

Beyonce released a statement on House Bill 2 as she performed Tuesday in Raleigh.

“As the Formation World Tour makes its stop in the Tar Heel state in the midst of such a controversial time, we think it is important for us to bring attention to those who are committed to being good and carrying on the message of equality in this core of controversy,” the statement said.

Beyonce endorsed Equality NC, an organization working to overturn the legislation which requires people to use the restroom of the gender on their birth certificate, even if they identify as transgender. She decried the North Carolina Legislature for acting earlier this year to prevent Charlotte from “expanding North Carolina’s anti-discrimination laws allowing LGBT people protection in places of public accommodation” instead of “accepting the progression in LGBT rights.”

Several other musicians have cancelled tour stops in North Carolina to protest the legislation, which they say is discriminatory. Bruce Springsteen, Ringo Starr, Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato have all called off concerts, while other stars have chosen to use the tour stops to raise awareness about the issue. Cyndi Lauper will donate proceeds of her show this summer to Equality NC.

Queen Bey hasn’t shied away from politics in the past, most recently addressing issues of police brutality, empowerment of women and racial injustice in her new album, Lemonade. As a part of her #Beygood initiative, she’s also lent her famous moniker to causes such as food drives, girls’ education, the environment, and disaster relief.
