Start your week in #ncpol #ncga with our latest Under the Dome politics podcast. Dawn Vaughan here, your News & Observer Capitol bureau chief and podcast host.

In the latest episode, for the week of Sept. 11, 2023, I’m joined by my politics team colleagues Luciana Perez Uribe Guinassi and Avi Bajpai to talk about the potential for the long-awaited, much anticipated arrival of the state budget.

The budget is months late, and several things have held it up, from negotiations over taxes and raises, to lawmaker vacations, to finally — as the budget came closer to the finish line — potentially legalizing a lot more gambling.

If the budget becomes law, so does Medicaid expansion, and Perez Uribe has talked with patients about how expansion may change how they receive health care for serious medical issues. Hear more about that on the podcast.
