Start your week in #ncpol #ncga with our latest Under the Dome politics podcast. Dawn Vaughan here, your News & Observer Capitol bureau chief and podcast host.

In the latest episode, for the week of Nov. 20, 2023, I talk about the latest in the run-up to candidate filing with my politics team colleagues Avi Bajpai and Kyle Ingram.

Perhaps one of the biggest names in politics this year is state Rep. Tricia Cotham, who is said to be running for reelection to her now-Republican leaning district, drawn for her after she switched parties in April. We talk about Cotham and another Republican, N.C. Insurance Commissioner Mike Causey, who is running for another term. Plus what the upcoming resignation of Democratic State Auditor Beth Wood means for the candidate field.

After the break, we discuss Republican gubernatorial candidate Bill Graham’s properties in his hometown of Salisbury, where he sits on the Catawba College Board of Trustees.

Headliner of the Week

Stayed tuned until the end for our picks for Headliner of the Week, which include a Press Corps departure, how to pronounce Gov. Roy Cooper’s last name and a bit of Thanksgiving gratitude.

Speaking of Thanksgiving, we’ll take a turkey break for the podcast for a week. We’ll be back in early December with the latest political news and analysis.
