Start your week in North Carolina politics with our latest Under the Dome podcast, for the week of Nov. 25, 2024. Dawn Vaughan here, your podcast host and The News & Observer’s Capitol bureau chief.

On this episode, I’m joined by my News & Observer colleagues Avi Bajpai, Kyle Ingram and Adam Wagner. Bajpai and Ingram are on our politics team, and Wagner covers the environment and climate change.

This past week was a doozy at the Legislative Building, with the veto override of House Bill 10 on immigration and vouchers, as well as a controversial omnibus bill.

Most of our discussion centers on Senate Bill 382, the bill that is sort of about Helene disaster relief but mostly about taking power away from Gov.-elect Josh Stein and the next attorney general, Jeff Jackson, who are both Democrats.

Plus, Ingram breaks down the elections changes in the bill and the latest on the N.C. Supreme Court race.

Headliner of the Week

Stay tuned to the end for our picks for Headliner of the Week. They range from swing Democrats in the legislature to three that are Thanksgiving-related, from food to time off.

Have a great Thanksgiving, everybody. Our podcast will take a break too, for the holiday week.
