ICE arrests suspected Tren de Aragua gang member and 10 others during raid in Raleigh
Federal authorities arrested a suspected member of the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua in Raleigh on Saturday.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrested Ricardo Granadillo-Padilla, a 24-year-old Venezuelan national who was wanted on federal charges for illegally entering the United States three years ago, during a raid at a house in Raleigh on Feb. 8, the agency said Thursday.
Authorities found a handgun, ammunition, and 10 other Venezuelan nationals in the house who were also taken into custody, the agency said.
The raid was the first enforcement operation conducted in Raleigh that has been announced by ICE so far under the Trump administration, ICE spokesman Lindsay Williams said.
Granadillo-Padilla was detained by the U.S. Border Patrol after illegally entering the U.S. near El Paso, Texas, on Oct. 1, 2022, according to court records. He was paroled and given a notice to appear, ICE said in a news release.
He failed to show up to his immigration appointment on Sept. 12, 2024, and the U.S. attorney for the Western District of Texas issued an arrest warrant for him, ICE said.
In addition to federal charges for illegal entry, Granadillo-Padilla was also a suspect in a mass shooting in Chicago, ICE said. The agency did not provide more details about the shooting.
Officers from ICE, Border Patrol, Customs and Border Protection’s Air and Marine Operations, and the U.S. Marshals Service made the arrest, ICE said.
