Federal agents spotted apprehending man at Cary Home Depot

Federal agents handcuffed and detained a Latino man at the Home Depot in Cary Tuesday, witnesses confirmed.

At about 10:30 a.m., Raleigh resident Geoffrey Chandler saw roughly eight masked agents loading a handcuffed man into a black SUV outside the Home Depot on Walnut Street.

The agents were masked, wearing fatigues, and appeared to be armed, he said, while the detained man appeared to be middle-aged and Latino.

“There were people, myself included, honking and blowing whistles and screaming at the (federal) agents,” he said.

Raleigh Mayor Janet Cowell announced Monday that the Border Patrol would be in Raleigh for an unspecified time and in undisclosed locations.

Morrisville Mayor Pro-Tem Satish Garimella urged residents of the town, which has a large South Asian population, to carry ID, passports, immigration information or, if they preferred, to stay at home.

Chandler said he was joined in the Home Depot parking lot by a representative of an immigrants’ rights organization who planned to report the SUV’s presence to other agencies.
