NC Senate District 17: Barringer defeats Fulghum

Republican incumbent Sen. Tamara Barringer, 55, won her bid to serve Wake County’s District 17 for a third term.

With 40 of 41 precincts reporting, Barringer had a substantial lead over Democrat Bryan Fulghum, 31, an N.C. State graduate who currently works in the service industry, with 58 percent of the vote.

Barringer is a lawyer and adjunct professor at UNC-Chapel Hill and has sponsored 47 bills during her previous terms.

She plans to focus heavily on reducing small-business regulations and continue her fight for at-risk children.
