Candidates for North Carolina state auditor
State Auditor Jessica Holmes, a Democrat appointed by Gov. Roy Cooper in November 2023, is seeking a full four-year term. Bob Drach, a Libertarian, is also running. Six Republicans are running in the GOP primary: Dave Boliek, Jack Clark, Charles Dingee, Jeff Tarte, Jim Kee, and Anthony Wayne (Tony) Street.

Former State Auditor Beth Wood’s resignation late last year allowed Gov. Roy Cooper to appoint a successor who could go into this year’s election as an incumbent.
Auditor Jessica Holmes, a Democrat who previously served on the Wake County board of commissioners, was sworn in on Dec. 15, and is running for the full four-year term that is on the ballot in November.
Holmes, who is running unopposed in the Democratic primary, will face Libertarian Bob Drach of Wilmington, and one of the six Republicans who are running in the GOP primary on March 5.
The News & Observer and The Charlotte Observer sent candidate questionnaires to everyone running in a contested primary in next month’s election. That includes the Republican primary for state auditor. Responses from the GOP candidates who filled out the questionnaire are linked below.
