Under the Dome podcast: Your US House delegates’ latest moves in Congress
This week on The News & Observer’s North Carolina politics podcast, Under the Dome, host and reporter Dawn Vaughan talks with our McClatchy D.C. correspondent Danielle Battaglia about the state’s Congressional delegation in the House.
North Carolina has 14 House members in Congress, including five freshman federal lawmakers: U.S. Reps. Jeff Jackson, Valerie Foushee, Chuck Edwards, Wiley Nickel and Don Davis. Battaglia shares their latest moves at the U.S. Capitol and their committee assignments. Edwards is a Republican and Jackson, Foushee, Nickel and Davis are all Democrats.
But higher on the national radar are two different Congress members: Reps. Patrick McHenry and Richard Hudson, both Republicans. Vaughan and Battaglia talk about why “Cinnamon Toast Crunch” is one of several jokes that came out of the contentious moment in the House during Republican Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s election to speaker, and what the kerfuffle on the floor has meant for McHenry and Hudson.
And those are just seven — or half — of North Carolina’s delegates. You can hear about more on the podcast.
Plus stick around for Vaughan and Battaglia’s picks for Headliner of the Week. Spoiler alert: One of them is the same headliner as last week... And likely to be picked again.
