“I need some help. My dog is attacking my daughter,” Miranda Harrell told a 911 dispatcher, according to a recording of the Oct. 22 call. “Hurry, she’s dying. Please hurry.”

A 911 dispatcher told Harrell to try using a stick to pry open the dog’s mouth, hit the dog with a heavy object or use a knife to slit the dog’s throat to free her 1-year-old daughter, according to the recording released to The News & Observer.

But Harrell said nothing worked.

Triniti Harrell died of her injuries from the dog attack at her Rocky Mount home, according to ABC11. She was left “clinging to life” after the attack, the sheriff’s office said.

When deputies responded to a report of an active dog attack at 12039 N.C. 43 N, they found “the mother of the child was trying to stab the dog to get it off of the child,” Edgecombe County Sheriff Clee Atkinson said in a news release last week.

A detective who was among the first to respond “observed the dog slinging the child around in its mouth,” according to a news release from the Edgecombe County Sheriff’s Office.

A deputy shot the dog twice, the sheriff’s office said in the news release.

Triniti was transported to Vidant Medical Center in Greenville after Edgecombe County first responders performed emergency first aid at the scene.

WRAL reported that the girl was transferred for surgery at UNC Children’s Hospital in Chapel Hill.
