A man broke in and fired a gun. So this NC mom fired back, police say
A woman woke up to the sound of someone breaking into her home in Burlington, North Carolina, police said.
With her 10-year-old son asleep in the home at about 4 a.m. Wednesday, the 31-year-old mom confronted the man who broke in through a kitchen window at the back of the home, according to police.
“The resident was armed with a pistol and confronted the burglar in the kitchen,” Burlington police said. The man opened fire with a handgun, but she fired back.
“The suspect retreated back through the kitchen window,” police said, taking off on foot.
“The victim and her son were uninjured during the incident. At this time it is unknown whether the suspect was injured or not. The victim will not be facing any charges,” police said.
The Burlington Police Department asks that anyone with information about the break-in call (336) 229-3500. Or anonymous callers can reach the Alamance County-Wide Crimestoppers at (336) 229-7100 or text 8398 to 274637 for a text-a-tip. There may be a cash reward.
