Man accidentally shoots himself in the foot in a Walmart parking lot, NC police say

A man literally shot himself in the foot at a North Carolina Walmart.

The man was getting out of his car in a Walmart parking lot in Leland on Saturday morning when police say his gun fell out of his pocket, the Wilmington StarNews reported.

The gun then hit the ground and fired a bullet into the man’s foot, WWAY reported.

Officers were called to the Walmart and found the man with a gunshot wound in his foot, according to WECT, and he was taken to New Hanover Regional Medical Center to be treated for his injuries.

The man has a concealed carry permit, but officials are still investigating the incident, according to WWAY.

Walmart has asked customers not to openly carry guns in its stores in states that allow open carry, CNN reported in September, but it still allows concealed carry by customers with a permit.

The man’s name has not been released.

Leland is in eastern North Carolina, about 10 miles from Wilmington.
