More snow in the forecast for North Carolina mountains this week

The North Carolina mountains could see more winter weather this week, forecasters say.

Rain on Tuesday is expected to turn into snow as temperatures drop overnight and into Wednesday morning for western counties, according to the National Weather Service.

“Rain is expected to briefly change to snow across the NC mountains before ending late Tuesday night/early Wednesday. Minor accumulations are possible, especially across the Tennessee border counties,” the Weather Service said.

Less than an inch of accumulation is expected but some areas at high elevations could see a couple inches, the National Weather Service said.

Areas from Bryson City to Boone could see less than an inch of snow Tuesday into Wednesday. Isolated areas right along the border, could see an inch of snow. Asheville is forecast to get rain with possibly a little snow mixed in Tuesday night, but no accumulation is expected, according to the National Weather Service.

The snow isn’t expected to accumulate elsewhere, according to the National Weather Service.

Last week, a “significant” winter storm threatened the area with nearly a foot of snow and strong winds, prompting road closures and winter storm warnings, McClatchy news group reported.
