Human bones found outside a NC home, and cops are investigating the ‘suspicious death’

Human bones were found in a North Carolina yard, prompting an investigation, officials say.

Deputies made the discovery after someone called 911 about checking on a person, the Harnett County Sheriff’s Office said in a news release obtained by The Fayetteville Observer and other media outlets.

The caller hadn’t seen a person who lived in a house near Dunn, roughly 40 miles south of Raleigh, reports ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.

Officials went to the house and found “a lot of bones” outside on Tuesday night, Sheriff Wayne Coats told The Daily Record.

The investigation stretched into Wednesday, and officials planned to bring the remains to a pathologist, according to the newspaper.

“The sheriff’s office is investigating the case as a suspicious death,” ABC11 reports. “So far there is no indication that foul play was involved.”

It wasn’t the only recent discovery of human bones in North Carolina.

Earlier this year, remains were found near an RV business and buried in woods, The News & Observer reported.
