A $2 lottery ticket just turned into a multi-million dollar prize for this NC woman

A North Carolina woman is celebrating a multi-million dollar prize, all thanks to a $2 lottery ticket.

Damian Zepponi of Winston-Salem just became the third person in state history to win the top prize in the Lucky for Life game, the N.C. Education Lottery said Tuesday in a news release.

During last week’s drawing, her ticket matched all numbers to win $1,000 a day.

“I couldn’t do anything but sit and cry and be amazed,” Zepponi said in the news release.

The lottery says Zepponi’s good fortune started when she went to the Food Lion grocery store in Pfafftown. The supermarket is roughly 8 miles northwest of Winston-Salem.

One of the lottery tickets she bought beat more than 1-in-30-million odds to win, according to the N.C. Education Lottery. She chose to take a lump sum payment and got $4,068,127 after taxes.

So what will she do with all that money?

Zepponi, 47, wants to start a ministry and make investments, according to lottery officials.

“And she hoped for the first time to take a family vacation with her seven children and four grandchildren,” the news release said.

Zepponi came forward after officials last week announced on Twitter that an unknown person was getting a windfall.

Zepponi isn’t the only big prize winner in the region.

In South Carolina, a Lucky for Life player just won $25,000 a year. That person hadn’t claimed the prize as of Tuesday afternoon, The State reported.
