Snow flurries seen on the Outer Banks as front brings freezing temperatures to NC
Residents and visitors on North Carolina’s Outer Banks witnessed a rare sight on Monday.
Snow flurries were reported mid-morning on the northern Outer Banks, the National Weather Service’s Newport/Morehead office tweeted just before 10:30 a.m.
People replied to the tweet saying they were seeing a few rare flurries as well.
But the snow was short-lived.
The flurries only fell for about an hour, and the amount that fell wasn’t measurable, Chris Collins, a meteorologist with the NWS Newport/Morehead office told McClatchy News.
The brief snow came with a cold front that brought highs barely in the 40s and lows in the upper 20s to the area on Monday, according to the NWS.
The chance of more flurries falling on the Outer Banks on Monday is “very small,” Collins said.
