Painter shows up to work on apartment, gets shot by person answering door, NC cops say
A painter was shot at a North Carolina apartment after showing up to work, police and local media report.
Byron Castillo, 48, was hired by Chatham Woods Apartments in High Point and showed up to work at about 8:30 a.m. Thursday, according to a news release from the High Point Police Department.
When the painter went to the door of one of the units, High Point Police say someone inside answered the door and shot him in the chest, according to WXII.
In a 911 call obtained by WGHP, a man told dispatchers he thought someone was trying to get into his home and fired a shot.
Police questioned a “person of interest” but no charges have been filed, High Point Police say.
Castillo was taken to a local hospital where he had surgery, police say. He is in critical condition and on a breathing machine, but his “vital signs are stable.”
High Point police say they are still investigating the incident, and no other information has been released.
