Uber driver called 911 after fatal shooting in northeast Charlotte
A teenage passenger in a ride-share vehicle died Sunday afternoon in northeast Charlotte after someone fired into the car, killing him and injuring another passenger, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police.
Investigators identified the victim as 19-year-old Jacquez Keyshawn Moore, CMPD said in a news release. A female passenger, whose name and age was not released, was injured.
The 911 call came in from the driver of the Uber, who told dispatch two people in the backseat of his Kia Soul had been shot, according to emergency radio communications available from Broadcastify.
The shooting happened about 4:55 p.m. in the 8600 block of Old Concord Road, south of East W.T. Harris Boulevard, the CMPD release said.
According to CMPD, the caller, an Uber driver, picked up the two individuals a short time before the shooting and were on the way to a location when a vehicle pulled up to next to the vehicle. While stopped, someone in the other vehicle fired multiple times at the rear of the vehicle, officials said.
The driver told police he “drove a short distance away” and called 911.
Moore was found dead in the car and the female was hospitalized “with non-life threatening injuries,” CMPD officials said in a news release.
By Monday, dozens of friends posted on Facebook mourning and expressing condolences for Moore.
“Wow RIP Jacquez this is getting ridiculous we been saying RIP too much this year something need to change,” one friend wrote.
The homicide and shooting are under investigation. As of Monday, no arrests had been made.
