‘I’m going fishing.’ NC man who already won one lottery jackpot wins another big prize
A North Carolina man who won a big lottery prize years ago just won another and plans to celebrate the same way.
Donald Hildebran stopped at a convenience store in Morganton on Tuesday and bought two 20X The Cash scratch-off tickets, according to a release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.
He decided he wanted more tickets, so he went back and bought two others, he told lottery officials.
Thanks to the fourth ticket he bought, Hildebran won a $250,000 top prize, the release says.
“I thought I’d made my five bucks back,” Hildebran told lottery officials. “But when I scanned the ticket it told me to go to lottery headquarters.”
Winning the lottery is nothing knew to the retiree from Connelly Springs. In 2013, he won another top prize of $200,000 off the $200,000 Extreme Cash game, according to the release.
He told lottery officials he spent some of that prize on a beach trip and plans to do the same with this one.
“I’m going fishing,” he told lottery officials. “I’m going to the beach!”
This time Hildebran told lottery officials he wants to drive there in a new Ford Explorer.
“It’s got more room,” he told lottery officials. “For what you’ll need to take to the beach.”
He claimed his prize on Wednesday and took home $176,876 after taxes, according to the release.
The game had just launched the day Hildebran won. After his win, five top prizes of $250,000 remain, according to the release. There’s also one $100,000 prize, eight $5,000 prizes and 25 $5,000 prizes.
