Fort Bragg soldier accused of beating couple in their 70s inside home, NC cops say
A man stationed at Fort Bragg is accused of beating two people in their 70s, North Carolina officials say.
The soldier assaulted the married couple when he broke into their home in Southern Pines, according to the city’s police department.
The residents, ages 73 and 75, are being treated for serious injuries after the attack on Saturday, police said in an incident report. The document lists a “blunt object” as one of the weapons involved.
Jacob Jadon Lee, 25, was arrested Sunday in connection with the case, according to Southern Pines officials.
He is enlisted in the U.S. Army and stationed at nearby Fort Bragg, according to Capt. Charles Campbell with the police department. Lee serves as a soldier, according to the Sandhills Sentinel and other news outlets.
Fort Bragg on Wednesday didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment about Lee’s employment.
Lee is facing one first-degree burglary charge, three assault charges and two injury to property charges, Campbell wrote in an email to McClatchy News. Lee is from Midland, Texas, according to the Moore County jail.
The soldier received a $300,000 bond and was being held in jail Wednesday, officials say. He is scheduled to appear in court next month, according to state records that spell his middle name as “Jaden.”
Southern Pines is roughly 40 miles northwest of Fayetteville and near Pinehurst, a well-known golf destination.
