Baby held on a passenger’s lap among four killed in crash, North Carolina cops say
A baby was among four people killed in a crash early Tuesday in North Carolina, media outlets report.
The car was traveling on Highway 125 near Scotland Neck just after midnight when State Highway Patrol officials say it crossed into the other lane and ran off the road and into a ditch, WNCN reports.
The car then hit a sign and several trees before stopping, WITN reports.
The driver and three passengers, including a baby who officials say was sitting in the lap of a passenger, were killed in the crash, according to WITN.
Those killed were 1-year-old London McDowell, 17-year-old Ta’Nautica McDowell, 27-year-old Jacques Dickens and 27-year-old Jamal Sherrod, WTVD reports.
Officials say Dickens and Sherrod were both thrown from the car, WNCN reports.
Another passenger, 25-year-old Shakierra McDowell, was also thrown from the car but officials say she survived and was taken to the hospital, WRAL reports.
The crash is still being investigated, Highway Patrol told WRAL, but reckless driving reportedly contributed to the incident.
Scotland Neck is in Halifax County, about 85 miles east of Raleigh.
