Two police officers shot while serving warrants in North Carolina, officials say

Two police officers and a suspect were shot early Monday in North Carolina, officials say.

Detectives with the Spring Lake Police Department were trying to serve arrest warrants at about 12:45 a.m. when they took Malik Omar McDonald into custody in a residential area, according to news releases.

That’s when another suspect, Sabera McNeil, shot two officers, the department said.

One officer went into surgery, and another had injuries that were not life-threatening, according to officials. The two detectives were in “stable condition” as of Monday afternoon, officers say.

When police fired back, McNeil was shot and later airlifted to a hospital with a head injury, police say.

McNeil, 22, and McDonald, 24, had been wanted on charges including attempted first-degree murder, according to police.

The charges were related to a shooting on April 23 ”that involved a 16-year-old,” police told ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.

McDonald was taken to jail Monday and had his bond set at $150,000, according to the Spring Lake Police Department.

“The State Bureau of Investigation is investigating the officer involved shooting,” police said in a news release.

Spring Lake is in Cumberland County and roughly 10 miles northwest of Fayetteville.
