This NC city among top places to start a career, report says. What makes it so great?
For those looking to start a career, a North Carolina city is one of the best places to be, a report found.
The report from Zippia analyzed and ranked the top places in the United States for young professionals starting a career based on income, how much rent costs and the availability of jobs.
Raleigh fell in the top 10, coming in at No. 6.
The city’s average rent of $1,132, median income of $47,701 and average unemployment rate of 2.3% earned it its spot, the report says. But another Carolinas city was tied.
Charleston, in South Carolina, also ranked No. 6
While Charleston has a higher average rent, $1,288, it’s median income was also higher, at $56,121, and it’s unemployment rate lower, at 2.2%.
“Raleigh definitely deserves some recognition for being a great place to start a career,” the report said.
The report analyzed 200 cities using the U.S. Census Bureau’s most recent American Community Survey. It then ranked them based on the three metrics: median income, average rent and average unemployment.
The top city in the U.S. was Fargo, North Dakota. It has a median income of $38,525 and an average rent of $818, the report says. It’s unemployment rate is 2.5%.
A similar report recently found Raleigh is also among the best places in the United States for recent college graduates, McClatchy News reports.
The city came in at No. 2 based on rent, restaurants and the population of younger adults.
Another triangle city, Durham, also ranked in the top at No. 11.
Other triangle areas also earned high spots on Zippia’s rankings. Cary came in at No. 11 while Durham ranked No. 15, according to the report. Charlotte fell at No. 58.
