13-year-old among two drowning victims off Outer Banks, officials say
A teenager was among two swimmers who drowned off the Outer Banks during the holiday weekend, officials say.
On Sunday morning, Dare County officials received a 911 call about two people missing in the water, WNCT and other news outlets reported.
Crews searched near the Old Swimming Hole, a recreational area on the Croatan Sound off Roanoke Island, WITN reported. The park is in Manteo and near the Dare County Regional Airport.
Divers found a 13-year-old boy and 30-year-old man and took them from the water, OBX Today reported. First responders couldn’t resuscitate the swimmers, who died at the scene, according to the news outlet.
Officials haven’t publicly identified the drowning victims, and McClatchy News’ request for comment went unanswered on Tuesday morning.
