Yes, 2020 is a mess. NC baseball team’s ‘Bullshirt’ provides some comic relief
As 2020 deals its unpredictable blows, a North Carolina baseball team has given fans something to cheer about.
The Durham Bulls on Tuesday released a T-shirt with a design that says “2020 This is Some Bullshirt” — and social media users just couldn’t get enough of it.
“Everyone saying they had ‘2020 vision’ didn’t see this Bull shirt coming,’ the minor league team wrote on Twitter.
The post sparked a host of hilarious reactions online.
The Myrtle Beach Pelicans, another minor league team, fired back with its own pun: “Unflockingbelievable.”
Other Twitter users tried their own versions of the Bulls’ wordplay.
“The #Rays top affiliate the @DurhamBulls with some kind of creative .... stuff,” sports broadcaster Neil Solondz wrote.
The new designs seemed to resonate, with hundreds of people reacting to the original tweet. Some said they planned to buy a shirt, even if they don’t root for the Bulls.
“It pains me to spend money with another team but I had to have this,” one person commented. “Credit when credit’s due. Well played @DurhamBulls ...well played.”
Preordered shirts are available on the Bulls website for $22.99 each with a shipping date of July 17.
“Never has a t-shirt been more appropriate,” one person tweeted.
For sports lovers, 2020 has been a tough year. Concerns about the coronavirus have halted athletic competitions for months, and Minor League Baseball last week announced it was canceling its season.
“We are a fans-in-the-stands business,” league president Pat O’Conner said, according to the Associated Press. “We don’t have national TV revenues.”
Some Twitter users said the Bulls’ shirt stood out from other items for sale this year.
“This is much better than all the teams currently hawking ‘undefeated season’ merchandise,” one person wrote.
The Bulls’ shirts even drew a suggestion for another team, Maryland’s Bowie Baysox.
One person asked: “can we get a “2020 Sox” shirt?”
