Church left trashed and ‘vulgarity’ scrawled on walls in North Carolina, cops say

Profanity was scrawled across the walls during an act of vandalism at a North Carolina church, officials say.

Moore’s Chapel Baptist Church was left with “extensive damage,” likely costing more than $20,000, the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office said Wednesday in a news release.

In the fellowship hall, deputies say they found holes in the walls, food spread across the floors and pierced air conditioning lines on Monday. Outside, a church van had its windshield smashed and tires slashed, the release said.

Also, spray paint was used to mark “vulgarity” on the van and indoor walls, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Video from WGHP shows items toppled both inside and outside the building in Saxapahaw, roughly 35 miles southeast of Greensboro.

“We would like to thank each person from the bottom of our hearts that have reached out to us after the vandalism at our church,” said a post on the Facebook page for the congregation. “We appreciate the love and support we have received.... A professional cleaning company will be needed due to the excessive amount of damage.”

Alamance County officials as of Wednesday said they would charge three juveniles in connection with the alleged vandalism. Deputies planned to “seek juvenile petitions” for two counts of breaking and entering as well as one count each of destruction of church property and injury to personal property, according to the news release.
