12 rescued at Outer Banks after plunging off capsized pontoon boat, authorities say

Twelve children and adults at the Outer Banks were rescued late Friday after a crowded pontoon boat capsized in rough waters in Currituck Sound, sheriff’s investigators said.

“It has been quite a busy season and a big thanks to the (Lower Currituck) VFD for the team work put in with this rescue!” the Currituck County Sheriff’s Office posted on Facebook Saturday morning.

Too many people were in the front of the boat, causing it to nosedive, Sgt. John Beardsley of the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission told OBXToday.com. No one was hurt, he said.
