Lottery player wins millions with $20 North Carolina scratch-off ticket

A North Carolina man’s $20 scratch-off lottery ticket ended up paying off big time.

Robert Carlton from Greensboro bought the 100X The Cash scratch-off ticket at Sandy Ridge Mart in Colfax, according to the a news release from the North Carolina Education Lottery.

The ticket ended up winning him the game’s top prize of $4 million, the release says.

When he claimed his prize Friday, lottery officials say he had the option of taking an annuity of $200,000 each year for 20 years or a $2.4 million lump sum.

Carlton chose the lump sum and took home nearly $1.7 million after taxes, the release says.

The 100X The Cash game started in March 2019 with four $4 million prizes and six $100,000 prizes, lottery officials say. After Carlton’s win, one top prize is left. Two $100,000 prizes are also left.

Colfax is in Guilford County, about 93 miles from Raleigh.
