$1 NC lottery ticket hit a jackpot. Mystery winner might not know, officials say.
Time is running out for the buyer of a $1 Carolina Cash 5 North Carolina lottery ticket that landed on a jackpot of more than a half-million dollars, lottery officials said Friday.
Someone bought the ticket on May 12 at the 7-Eleven in the 9000 block of Mallard Creek Road in Charlotte, according to a lottery news release.
The ticket matched all five numbers drawn: 5-15-16-34-35, officials said.
The mystery winner beat odds of 1 in 962,598, according to the Cash 5 website.
The winner has until 5 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 9, to claim the $536,959 prize at lottery headquarters in Raleigh, lottery Executive Director Mark Michalko said. That’s the six-month expiration date to claim the proceeds.
Check any Cash 5 tickets you might have put in a desk drawer, billfold, pocketbook or glove compartment of your car, he said in the release.
“It would be sad to see a prize like this go unclaimed, so we hope the winner comes forward soon,” Michalko said. “We have a big check waiting for the winner.”
In Friday night’s drawing, no one matched all of the numbers drawn — 4, 20, 21, 29 and 33, according to the Cash 5 website. The winner would have scored a $298,000 jackpot.
Buyers of 31 tickets won $250 by matching four of the balls and 1,461 got $5 for matching three, officials said. Another 17,386 ticket buyers got their dollar back by matching two the numbers, according to the lottery.
Saturday’s drawing has an estimated $362,000 jackpot, officials said.
