He told his wife he ‘was going to win one day.’ Then came a big NC lottery jackpot
A 68-year-old North Carolina man’s positive thinking finally paid off.
David Hosmer won $100,000 after buying a $20 lottery ticket at a grocery store, according to the NC Education Lottery.
“I told her (wife) I was going to win one day and my day finally came,” the retired ceiling installer said in a news release on Dec. 2.
Hosmer bought a Ultimate 7’s ticket at the Food Lion on Sherron Road in Durham after “winning $30 the day before,” according to the lottery service.
The Durham resident scratched the ticket in his car and “sat in disbelief” looking at the winning numbers.
“My hands were shaking,” Hosmer told lottery officials. “Then a smile came across my face and I started grinning ear to ear. I called my wife and she started screaming.”
He took home $70,756 after taxes, according to the lottery service.
Hosmer plans “to help pay off his wife’s new Ford EcoSport” and go on vacation to Hawaii, he told lottery officials.
The Ultimate 7’s game started in May and is made up of “four top prizes of $2 million and eight $100,000 prizes,” according to the lottery service.
One top prize of $2 million and two $100,000 prizes are up for grabs.
