A 60-year-old woman came up with a creative way for safeguarding her North Carolina lottery ticket.

Pamela Lunsford taped a $20 Winter Winnings ticket to her leg after winning a $100,000 prize, according to the NC Education Lottery.

“I can lose a purse or a book bag but I can’t lose my leg,” Lunsford said in a news release.

Lunsford, who lives in Rosman, bought three scratch-off tickets from Lake Toxaway Trading Post on Rosman Highway, lottery officials said. She won $100 on the first and $30 on the second.

“I was really excited that I won $130,” Lunsford said in the news release. “When I realized what I won on the last ticket, I started shaking. I was in total shock.”

She collected $70,756 after taxes on Dec. 28.

“Something like this, it’s life-changing for me,” Lunsford told lottery officials.

Lunsford celebrated her big jackpot win by taking her kids to a crab dinner in Asheville, according to the lottery service. She also plans on buying a new car after her old one was totaled in an accident a few months ago.

The Winter Winnings game started in November “with two top prizes of $1 million and two $100,000 prizes,” lottery officials said.

The two $1 million prizes are still up for grabs.
