Plane crashes off North Carolina coast, officials say

An airplane crashed off the coast of North Carolina on Sunday evening, the U.S. Coast Guard said.
The Coast Guard confirmed a small plane crashed, but has not yet verified information about any victims or survivors, Petty Officer Edward Wargo said.
Three boats and two helicopters were taking part in a search that was expected to continue throughout the night, Wargo said.
The crash happened about 4 miles east of Drum Inlet, the Coast Guard said in a news release.
An air traffic controller at Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point reported that the aircraft was “behaving erratically” on radar before disappearing from the radar screen, according to the Coast Guard release.
