One soldier was killed and three others were injured in a “military vehicle accident” on a U.S. Army base, officials said.

The 18th Airborne Corps said the incident happened on Fort Bragg in North Carolina. Officials in a news release shared few details but said soldiers received treatment at the scene before going to the base’s Womack Army Medical Center.

The name of the deceased soldier wasn’t released, pending notification of the next of kin.

“We are saddened by death of one of our own as a result of a vehicle accident...,” Maj. Gen. Brian Mennes, deputy commanding general of the 18th Airborne Corps, said in the April 28 release. “Our heart goes out to the Soldier’s family and friends as we collectively mourn the loss of this Soldier.”

The soldier died at about noon on Thursday, April 28. Later that day, officials said an investigation was underway.

Fort Bragg is about 55 miles south of Raleigh and roughly 10 miles from downtown Fayetteville. More than 53,000 troops are stationed at the base, which is also home to the 82nd Airborne Division, McClatchy News reported.
