A 14-year-old was thrown from a boat before he disappeared in North Carolina, officials said.
Now, crews report finding the body of the teen who had gone missing near Wilson, roughly 50 miles east of Raleigh.
Officials said the teenager vanished while on a boat ride on Buckhorn Reservoir, which offers boating, fishing and other water activities, according to the Wilson Parks & Recreation department.
“The male was ejected from a boat and is currently unaccounted for,” the Wilson Police Department wrote Sunday, June 5 on Facebook.
The 14-year-old was reported missing at about 10 a.m. but still hadn’t been found that evening, when city officials shared that the reservoir would be closed until further notice due to the ongoing search.
On Monday, June 6, police said the teen was found dead, and the reservoir had reopened. The circumstances of the deadly incident are still under investigation, and the boy wasn’t identified in a news release.
“The thoughts and prayers from all emergency personnel are with the victim’s family in this difficult time,” the department wrote on its Facebook page.
