This North Carolina mountain winery is the best in the state, Yelp says. Here’s why
If you’re a wine fan, the Western North Carolina mountains could be worth a visit.
That’s because the region is home to the top winery in the state, new rankings show.
Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards in Hendersonville was named North Carolina’s best place for wine production, according to results published June 15.
To come up with the list, the restaurant review website Yelp studied wine-making businesses in each state. It “then ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews” over time, results show.
Saint Paul Mountain Vineyards topped the list after Yelp users said they couldn’t get enough of the family-run business’ wine tasting options and customer service. Others liked that the location offered live music and views of grapevines, helping it earn more than four out of five stars.
“Because of the warm days and cool nights in our region, the 14 varieties of wine grapevines grown on two vineyards — at elevations of 2,300 and 3,000 feet — produce some of the best grapes for producing wine in the country,” the winery wrote on its Yelp page.
The family’s Saint Paul Mountain Farms describes itself as a business that offers more than a dozen types of wine, including whites, reds and rosés. The varieties “are all locally grown, processed and served” at its tasting rooms, according to the business’ website.
If you’re not a fan of wine, Saint Paul Mountain Farms also offers local ciders at its operation in Hendersonville, which is home to roughly 15,000 people. The town about 25 miles south of Asheville is no stranger to receiving statewide recognition.
In September, a Hendersonville orchard was named the best place to pick apples in North Carolina. In June 2021, the town ranked as the state’s No. 1 place for retirees, McClatchy News reported.
