Gibson Mill Market details official Concord food hall opening with six local vendors
Concord’s first food hall at Gibson Mill Market officially opens Wednesday with six vendors.
“We’re thrilled to officially open and become a foodie destination in the Concord area,” Thomas Moore, business development director at Gibson Mill, said in a statement released Monday.
The 17,000-square-foot market can support up to 12 vendors and a full-service, 3,000-square-foot restaurant, according to the release.
The new vendors join the previously opened High Branch Brewing Co. and Luck Factory Games at the repurposed 123-year-old former textile mill at 325 McGill Ave. NW.
This is something new for Concord, High Branch Brewing recently said on Facebook:
“The owners saw a vision and brought it here for us, we are humbled to be part of this. We’ve gone from being the first brewery in Cabarrus County, to being in the first food hall in Cabarrus County. Good things are coming.”
About Gibson Mill Market’s food hall vendors
The six vendors opening, according to a market’s news release, are:
▪ Cara’s Cookie Co.: Cookie sales go toward the nonprofit Cara’s Purpose, which helps support families of infants diagnosed with terminal illnesses.
▪ Johnny Rogers BBQ & Burgers: A family-owned food joint offering hand-pulled NC-style barbecue and burgers.
▪ Taco Street, a new concept by Mexicasa in Harrisburg, serving traditional Mexican street tacos, house-made salsas and homemade sangrias.
▪ Churn Buddies Ice Cream: scratch-made ice cream featuring local ingredients and flavors.
▪ Defined Coffee, a local coffee brand and roaster, with coffee sourced from around the world, has indoor and outdoor seating.
▪ The Market Bar, led by Cabarrus Brewing’s Steve Steinbacher.
Market hours, starting Wednesday, are 7 a.m.-9 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday, and noon-8 p.m. Sunday.
Other businesses there
Two businesses already opened at the market last year.
High Branch Brewing Co. taproom has a 5,400-square-foot space on the east side of the site on the first floor of the market, CharlotteFive previously reported.
Luck Factory Games, a cafe with more than 1,000 board games, hosts Dungeons & Dragons, Magic the Gathering and other games.
Other food and drink vendors at the complex are Ellie’s Diner and Cabarrus Brewing Company, according to Gibson Mill Market.
What’s next?
Three more food hall restaurants also are planned:
▪ Kuni’s Kitchen: serving noodle, rice, and salad bowls and eggrolls by Scratch Made Hospitality Group, according to the restaurant website.
▪ Barco’s Sports & Raw Bar: also by Scratch Made Hospitality Group, will feature a raw bar, sandwich rolls, nachos, and full bar, according to the website.
▪ Livy’s Neapolitan Pizza: Livy’s first shop opened in August 2020 at 1030 Woodward Ave. inside Heist Brewery Barrel Arts near Camp North End in Charlotte. The thin-crust pizza is baked in a 900-degree brick oven to create a crispy but doughy char-flavored crust, Livy’s owner Kurt Hogan previously told The Charlotte Observer. Hogan also is Heist Brewery founder and CEO.
An opening timeframe for the new vendors is not available, according to the market.
More about the mill
In 1899, James Cannon and R.E. Gibson opened Gibson Manufacturing Co. The mill manufactured yarns, gingham and madras fabric, as well as dress goods. From the 1930s to 1970s, the mill produced towels and sheets.
A year after the mill closed in 2003, Southpaw Investors reopened it for retail and office space.
Architecture and design work was developed by d3 Studio, with construction by Liles Construction.
The 656,000-square-foot site on 48 acres sees over 1,000 visitors daily, according to the market. The food hall is in the 34,500-square-foot weaving room, according to the market website.
