Jeffrey Cunningham gave his co-workers quite the scare recently.

Cunningham, a China Grove resident who works as a logistics manager, scratched off a Cashword lottery ticket in the office, according to a Nov. 2 news release from North Carolina Education Lottery officials. When he saw his half-million dollar prize, he got excited.

“I just started hollering,” Cunningham said. “I kept getting more and more of the letters, but I missed one of them at first. I went back and checked again, and that’s when I saw it.”

When they heard Cunningham yelling, co-workers “rushed in” to ask him what happened.

Cunningham bought his winning $10 ticket from Rose Mart BP on South Elm Eugene Street in Greensboro, officials said. He cashed in his prize on Monday, Oct. 31, and after tax withholdings, he took home $355,053.

“This is definitely life-changing for me,” Cunningham told officials.

He plans to use his winnings to pay bills and take a family trip to Italy, officials said.

China Grove is about 35 miles northeast of Charlotte.
