24-year-old dies, 5 others injured after gunfire erupts at bonfire party, NC cops say
A 24-year-old was killed after gunfire erupted at a bonfire party in North Carolina, news outlets reported.
Five others were shot, and a sixth person was injured while trying to get away at around 1 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 13, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies responded after several 911 callers reported a shooting on Double D Ranch. The property is near Enfield, roughly 70 miles northeast of Raleigh.
People had gathered at the ranch for a bonfire party being advertised on social media. The flyer that circulated online had the words “no drama no weapons,” according to a graphic the sheriff’s office shared on Facebook.
Deputies were told that hundreds of people attended the event, where organizers said they would be providing security. But during the party, officials believe there was an argument before shots were fired, rrspin.com reported.
One person was found dead at the scene of the shooting. That person was identified as 24-year-old Cierra Webb of Roanoke Rapids, according to WNCN and ABC11, The News & Observer’s media partner.
The person injured while trying to leave the shooting scene received treatment. Of the five other people who were shot, “four are in stable condition and one was airlifted to a trauma facility,” officials wrote on Facebook.
One of the injured victims is 16 years old, the sheriff’s office told news outlets.
