A New York man couldn’t believe his eyes after he bought a lottery ticket in North Carolina while helping his friend move into the state.

Terrance Pertillar, who lives in Riverhead, was on a trip to Henderson, North Carolina, when he and his friend stopped for gas, he told lottery officials in an April 17 news release.

During the stop, Pertillar bought a lottery ticket that caught his eye — the Living Lucky with Luke Combs $5 scratch-off, lottery officials said.

“I’m a fan of Luke Combs,” Pertillar told lottery officials. “I saw his ticket so I bought it.”

It turned out to be a “once-in-a-blue-moon” ticket that won him $200,000.

Pertillar bought his lucky ticket at the Granville Food Mart in Oxford, according to lottery officials. The New Yorker took home $142,501 after taxes.

“I was like, ‘Wow, is this real?’” he told lottery officials.

Oxford is about 55 miles north of Raleigh.
