If you want to treat your mom to a satisfying brunch, you might not have to venture far from home.

That’s because North Carolina is home to two restaurants that made it onto a list of the nation’s “Top 100 Brunch Spots for Mother’s Day,” according to findings published May 4.

Savorez in Wilmington ranks No. 9 and Sunny Point Cafe in Asheville lands at No. 13 after the restaurant review website Yelp said it studied online reviews that customers left over time. It then “ranked those spots using a number of factors including the total volume and ratings of reviews mentioning ‘brunch,’” including a maximum of “10 businesses per state for geographic diversity.”

The results were released ahead of Mother’s Day, which falls on May 14 this year. Sunny Point Cafe said it will open for brunch 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. and won’t take reservations. Savorez, which didn’t immediately share its holiday plans with McClatchy News on May 8, typically offers Sunday brunch from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., according to its website.

Among the two recognized North Carolina restaurants, Savorez ranked higher on the list. Though the restaurant has a small footprint, it says it brings “big bold flavors” to Wilmington. After all, it takes its name from the Spanish word “sabores,” which means flavors.

On Yelp, customers raved about their late-morning meals, consisting of shrimp and grits and other Southern classics. The restaurant, which aims to combine this region’s staples with cuisine that’s popular in Latin America, also received praise for its take on huevos rancheros.

Savorez, which has more than four out of five stars on Yelp, isn’t a stranger to receiving accolades. In September, Yelp said the restaurant was the best place to get brunch in North Carolina.

Also earning repeated recognition is Sunny Point Cafe, nestled in the mountain tourist destination of Asheville. While the restaurant recently was named the state’s best restaurant for burritos, it now ranks among the nation’s favorite places for Mother’s Day brunch.

Sunny Point Cafe was named a top place to eat after customers flocked to Yelp to say they couldn’t get enough of the restaurant’s chicken and waffle sandwiches and other creative menu items. Many also were fans of the cozy venue’s on-site garden, helping it earn more than four out of five stars.

“We like fresh ingredients so much we have our own garden adjacent to the restaurant,” the restaurant wrote on its website. “During peak growing season, staff works daily in the garden harvesting ingredients for our specials — hard to get much fresher!”

Overall, Yelp said the No. 1 brunch destination in the United States was Cafe Kacao in Oklahoma City.
