Dread going to a Charlotte DMV? You can now check how long the visit will take
If you’re planning a trip to the DMV in Charlotte soon, you can now know how long the wait time is.
The N.C. Division of Motor Vehicles website now has wait times listed for each of its 115 driver’s license offices across the state.
“The wait time is defined as the current average length of time from check-in until the customer is called to the workstation for service,” NCDMV says. “This tool will be most useful in the afternoon when driver’s license offices are serving walk-ins only.”
To check the wait time for your location, just hover over the icon marking each driver’s license office, and a box will pop up with the current walk-in time.
DMV appointments can be scheduled up to 90 days in advance at skiptheline.ncdot.gov.
Most services NCDMV offers, such as driver’s license renewals and record requests, can be completed online.
However, some services require an in-person visit, like getting a state license or ID for the first time, obtaining a Real ID, or making a name change, The Charlotte Observer reported.
